Bush Buys Into Global Warming Hysteria
Just as many reputable scientist are seriously questioning the alarmism of global warming hysteria, and as climatological evidence mounts to assail one of the underlying and spurious claims upon which the entire edifice is built, along comes President Bush with his inauspicious declaration that we need to act to combat this illusory menace to mankind. Bush’s compassionate conservative surrender on this issue, like his advocacy of the open borders Comprehensive Immigration Reform is just another assault on the nation’s sovereignty. This latest exhibition of Rockefeller Republicanism is another reason why many conservatives are gleeful that the Bush Administration is drawing to a close.
Bush’s announcement comes just days after it was reported that China now surpasses the United States in carbon emissions. Does Bush not understand that his acquiescence to this unfounded theory will usher in a whole host of punitive measures dictated by the United Nations as a way to enervate the economic vitality of the U.S.? As The Washington Times Tony Blankely notes:
Equally frightening is the emerging strategy of using global warming policy to crush the economies of the West, but not of the “developing” nations. Also reported on the front page of Monday’s Washington Times was the story of Yvo de Boer, executive secretary of the U.N. climate treaty secretariat. This dangerous U.N. official stated that he wants to exempt China and India from carbon emissions regulation and taxation. In an example of suicidal liberal guilt, this blithering nitwit argued that the United States and Europe have “a historic responsibility” for emitting carbons — and thus should pay the price now.
Bush’s posture on this issue is just another example of the Republican Party’s abdication in terms of allowing the Left and the media to set the terms of the global warming debate. Since McCain’s pro-global warming position is entrenched, the last best chance to combat the unintended consequences of any carbon emission legislation lays in the hands of an already dispirited and weak Republican congressional delegation.
