Raising Obama’s Troubling Associations: What Took McCain So Long?
I am glad to see that McCain has finally seen the need to talk about Bill Ayers, Reverend Wright and some of the other nefarious characters that were a part of Obama’s political ascendancy in Chicago. The reason McCain needs to discuss these issues is that the media has chosen to function not as inquisitive journalists, but rather, as unabashed advocates for the Obama campaign. Their deliberate omission in reporting these stories is all the evidence one needs to demonstrate that they are in the tank for the Democratic candidate for president.
Given this ineluctable fact, one wonders why McCain has waited so long to raise the issue of Obama’s troubling associations. Was he laboring under the false illusion that the media would sooner or later be forced to delve into these matters that would be highly unflattering to Barack Obama? Given the continuing and galling disinterest on the part of the media in vetting the blank slate known as Obama and with less than 30 days left to the election, we can only hope that McCain has finally been disabused of this notion.
Given the financial crisis that has permeated through the economy and the fact that voters, so far, have blamed Republicans for the catastrophe, a question arises: even though Obama has been the beneficiary of this maelstrom, why isn’t he decisively ahead of McCain in the polls. The answer is that voters still have far too many questions about Obama. Since the media has abrogated its role to properly inform voters of Obama’s background, his beliefs and his paltry experience, it is up to McCain to fill in the blanks.
A final note on the debate tonight: McCain should forgo talking about one of his favorite topics: earmarks. Although most people view pork-barrel spending with a jaundiced eye, the dollar amounts in relationship to overall federal spending is miniscule. McCain’s fervent opposition to earmarks is a result of one of his peculiar, and at times, irritating traits: his grating self-righteousness. McCain sees earmarks as not merely wasteful, but as evil to be combated with a fanatics zeal. Ditto his view on campaign finance reform.
Update: Astonishingly, CNN has broken the long and inexcusable mainstream media silence on the extent and duration of Obama’s relationship with unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers. After ignoring the groundbreaking work that NRO’s Stanley Kurtz has done researching the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, CNN actually interviewed him for the report. Here is the CNN report; it makes for compelling viewing:
Bottom line: Obama has lied and continues to lie about his relationship with Bill Ayers. Maybe someone will ask him about his reluctance to come clean about his extensive involvement with this radical at tonight’s debate…
